Empty Shoes Memorial
2 E Main St
Join the Center for Suicide Awareness on Thursday, September 26, 2019, for the Empty Shoes Memorial held in front of the Capitol’s State Street Entrance. The event is held in conjunction with the passage of Wisconsin Senators Lena Taylor and Andre Jacque’s resolution to recognize September as National Suicide Prevention Month in Wisconsin.
The Empty Shoes Memorial seeks to visualize the impact of suicide across Wisconsin by presenting hundreds of shoes and military combat boots on the Capitol lawn reflecting those that died by suicide in just one year in Wisconsin. Suicide impacts everyone in our communities, including our veterans and young adults. This awareness event will not only bring attention to the impacts of suicide, but it will connect community members to the Center’s resources such as HOPELINE, a free 24/7 text-based emotional support service. This free event is open to the public. All are invited to attend.
